  1. Lightly toast some wholemeal or light-rye bread.

  2. Spread some margarine or butter.

  3. Spread some avocado.

  4. Add some sliced banana.

  5. Dribble a little honey.

  6. Sprinkle some diced capsicum.

  7. Sprinkle some coarsely crushed almonds.

  8. Grill lightly – best to pre-warm the tray if the griller is only from above.

  9. Add a few dobs of sour light-cream.

  10. Sprinkle a little cinnamon.

Melbourne residents: Helga's Light Rye is a fine bread for this recipe.  I prefer red capsicums and red-gum, blue-gum or tea-tree (from Northern NSW) honey.

This breakfast toast recipe – my sole contribution to the culinary arts – is derived from the savoury recipe below from my friends Laura and Carol.  Some years ago (1984 to 1988?) there was a children's program on ABC TV hosted by Andrew Denton.  This show, at 6 PM weeknights, the name of which I cannot remember, featured recipes from viewers.  Most sounded impossible to stomach – vegemite-sauerkraut milkshakes and such-like.  I received word that my Yum- Yum recipe was to go to air and so I had the VCR ready to roll to capture my moment on national prime-time TV.  To no avail.  In Melbourne, the program was replaced by a football replay!
