Khalil Gudaz is one of the most exciting Sitarists to come out of Afghanistan and India in recent times. His style is said to resemble the late great Sitarist Nikhil Banarjee. By mixing the techniques developed from his mastery of the Tanboor and the Rubab, he has created a unique style of Sitar melody.  Khalil's formal introduction to the Sitar came in 1977, when he commenced his tutelage under the late Ustad Mohd Omar, a recognised Master of the Rubab. Khalil then learnt under Irfan Mohd Khan, at the Lucnow Shajahanpur Gharana, under the guidance of Professor Partha Das of the Senia (Mehar) Gharana. This  institution counts Nikhil Banarjee, Ravi Shankar and Ustad Ali Akhbar Khan amongst its alumni.  Khalil completed his studies with a degree of excellence in May 1993.  Khalil's devotion to the Sitar led Khalil to be accepted as a disciple by the world renowned Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan.

An A Grade Artist of All India Radio,  Khalil has performed live in India and Afghanistan. He brings together two major disciplines – Afghani and Hindustani music. This work has earned accolades including:

1982 Gold medal Afghan Artists Union Festival
1983 Musician of the Year
1992 Trophy from composer Silipi Parishad
1995 Trophy  Ganesh Festival, Poona
1997 Trophy  Golden Jubilee of India, Banaras
